We walk in an ambient dark.
A man with his head on fire
reads the newspaper. A girl
in a gas mask combs the hair
of a one-legged doll. A boy
with a cheesecloth over his
head is coated in butterflies.
Some people will be
remembered picking flowers.
A snail carries a yellow
house on its back. A robot
rides a horse across a snowy
field. A woman holds a giant
match like a torch in a
cemetery of matchboxes.
The exhibit falls asleep when
the last custodian goes home
like astronomers of the future
after the final star burns out.
